Celestial moon and floral wallpaper on a powder room ceiling — wallpaper installation by ProKir Design

Peel and Stick Wallpaper Installation

Removable wallpaper looks easy until the second panel. We hang peel and stick with level seams, matched patterns and clean cuts at corners, outlets and trim, so it looks like the real thing.

Yes, it is worth hiring a pro for peel and stick. The adhesive grabs on contact, so a panel that starts off-level stays off-level, and pattern drift shows by the third panel. Our labor for peel and stick is typically $60 to $100 per single roll, and an accent wall is usually done in a few hours.

Prices are typical ranges for labor, not a quote. Send photos and we confirm a firm price, usually within hours.

Why Peel and Stick Goes Wrong (and How We Avoid It)

Seams that drift

We snap a plumb line for the first panel and check every drop, so the pattern stays level across the wall.

Bubbles and wrinkles

Panels are applied top-down a section at a time and smoothed with the right tool, not by hand.

Messy corners and outlets

Relief cuts and a sharp blade at corners, switch plates, trim and ceilings.

Peeling edges

Removable wallpaper needs a smooth, clean, fully cured wall. We check the wall first and tell you if it needs prep.

Overlap or butt seams

Some brands are designed to overlap, others to butt. We follow the brand's method so the seams disappear.

Textured walls

Peel and stick does not hold on heavy texture. We will tell you honestly when traditional paper is the better choice.

Good Places for Peel and Stick

SpaceNotes
Rental apartmentsRemovable when you move out, if the wall paint was in good condition
Accent walls & headboard wallsFastest way to change a room, usually a half-day job
Nurseries & kids' roomsEasy to change as kids grow
Powder roomsFine away from direct water; we advise on ventilation and steam

How We Install Peel and Stick

  1. Check the wall. It must be smooth, clean and painted at least 2 to 4 weeks before (fresh paint can lift).
  2. Plan the layout. We measure the repeat and decide where the first panel goes so the pattern is centered.
  3. Hang and smooth. Plumb first panel, then each panel matched and smoothed from the top down.
  4. Trim. Clean cuts at ceiling, baseboard, corners, outlets and switch plates.

Need it taken down later or old paper removed first? See wallpaper removal and our pricing guide.

Peel and Stick Installation FAQ

Labor is typically $60 to $100 per single roll. A standard accent wall usually costs from our $400 accent-wall minimum. Wall prep, if needed, is extra.

It depends on the brand: some panels are made to overlap slightly, others to butt edge to edge. We follow the manufacturer's method so the pattern matches and the seams stay flat.

Yes, in a powder room or a bathroom with good ventilation, away from direct water. In a full bathroom with a shower, a traditional vinyl wallpaper usually lasts longer.

On a wall with sound, fully cured paint it usually peels off cleanly. On fresh, cheap or poorly bonded paint it can lift paint with it, which is why we check the wall first.

Light texture can work; heavy texture cannot, because the adhesive only touches the high points. We can skim coat the wall first or suggest a traditional paper.
