Typical 2026 prices for hanging wallpaper in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey: per room, per roll and per square foot, plus what changes the price.
Most wallpaper installations in NYC cost $400 to $1,500+ per accent wall or room. A full bedroom or dining room usually runs $1,200 to $3,000. Labor for standard paper is about $80 to $120 per single roll; grasscloth and metallics run $120 to $200 per roll, and hand-painted silk panels $250 to $600 per panel. Wall prep, removal and ceilings above 10 ft are extra.
These are typical ranges for installation labor, not a quote. The wallpaper itself is not included. Send photos and we confirm a firm price, usually within hours.
| Project | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Accent / feature wall | $400 – $800 | One wall up to ~12 ft wide, standard ceiling height |
| Powder room | $600 – $1,500 | Many cuts around vanity, mirror, fixtures and trim |
| Bedroom, dining room or office | $1,200 – $3,000 | Four walls, 8–10 ft ceilings |
| Stairwell or double-height foyer | $1,500 – $4,000+ | Scaffold staging, long drops, stair turns |
| Scenic / panoramic mural | $1,000 – $5,000+ | Depends on panel count and wall layout |
| Hand-painted silk (de Gournay, Gracie) | $3,000 – $10,000+ | Per room; panel sequencing and archival adhesives |
Delicate and natural wallcoverings take longer to hang well: grasscloth shows every seam and shading change, silk cannot touch paste on its face, and metallics highlight any flaw in the wall.
| Wallcovering | Labor price | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard paper / non-woven | $80 – $120 | per single roll |
| Peel-and-stick | $60 – $100 | per single roll |
| Commercial vinyl (Type II) | $4 – $7 | per sq ft |
| Natural grasscloth, sisal, raffia | $120 – $200 | per single roll |
| Metallic, foil, mylar | $120 – $180 | per single roll |
| Murals (printed panels) | $8 – $15 | per sq ft |
| Hand-painted silk / chinoiserie | $250 – $600 | per panel |
Add up the width of the walls you want covered and enter the ceiling height. We estimate the rolls and a labor range. Doors and windows are not subtracted, which roughly covers pattern waste.
| Item | Typical cost | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Wallpaper removal | $2 – $4 per sq ft | More if old paper was hung without primer or painted over |
| Skim coat / wall repair | $2 – $5 per sq ft | Pre-war plaster, cracks, uneven walls |
| Primer / sizing | Usually included | Wallcovering primer on all walls we hang |
| Liner paper | $1.50 – $3 per sq ft | Recommended under grasscloth, silk and on rough walls |
| Ceilings 10 ft+ | +15% – 40% | Scaffolding and extra hands for long drops |
| Ceiling application | +25% – 50% | Overhead work is slower and needs staging |
Smooth, primed drywall is fastest. Old plaster, cracks or previous paper add prep time.
Above ~10 ft we stage scaffolding, and long drops need a second installer.
Grasscloth, silk and metallics are unforgiving: seams, shading and paste control take longer.
Large repeats and drop-match patterns use more paper and more careful layout.
Windows, built-ins, molding and fixtures mean more cuts than an open wall.
Co-op rules, COIs, freight elevators and limited work hours affect scheduling.

Most NYC wallpaper installations cost $400 to $1,500+ per accent wall or room. A full bedroom or dining room is typically $1,200 to $3,000, while stairwells, murals and hand-painted silk papers cost more. Your exact price depends on wall size, ceiling height, wall condition and the wallcovering.
For standard papers and grasscloth we usually price per single roll; murals and commercial vinyl are priced per square foot, and hand-painted panels per panel. Either way, you get one firm total after we see photos of the room.
No, removal is priced separately because it varies a lot: from about $2 per square foot for strippable paper to more for paper hung without primer or painted over. We tell you upfront after seeing the walls.
Small jobs such as a single small wall still require travel, setup, protection and cleanup, so very small projects start from our accent-wall pricing.
